A Backyard Gospel of Smoke, Song, Story, and Soul
This is a hand-carried invite list. If you're reading this, we thought of you specifically — please don't forward it.
Six years ago, I had a pig cooker built in eastern North Carolina — not far from where my dad, Chuck Allen Sr., is buried. I stopped by his headstone on the way home to let him know I was going to do a pig pickin' every year in his honor, the way he taught me. Then I got back on the highway toward Oregon… and saw a sign that stopped me cold.
That sign had our name all over it. So does this gathering.
"I will do everything in my power to be there, Chuck." — Jarred Belman, flew from Maryland last year. Flying from Florida this year.
The Soundtrack
High Desert Jones rides in from Bend — Chris Jones, acoustic guitar, the kind of voice that makes the trees lean in. A fan favorite; we’re happy he’s back!
A blues and folk duo whose hands know what they're doing, playing the songs that hold an afternoon together.
And as always… a few wandering troubadours may materialize. They usually do.
Hosted by Chuck Ray Allen Jr. and Rilla Ray Delorier
What Y’all Need to Know
(Lard have mercy… let’s do this)

Rideshare if you can—our driveway’s part of the party!
We’re expecting around 120 guests, so parking will be tight. If you drive, try parking on SW Hamilton Terrace, SW Bancroft Street, or SW Condor Avenue, then walk uphill to our place.
Important: There are two SW Lowell Lanes. If your Uber turns onto a paved one, that’s not it. Ours is a gravel road about 100 yards south of that, off Terwilliger Blvd.
First time here? Just follow the signs for Eagle Point Overlook.

Who Was the
Tar Heel Prophet
of Pig & Pint?
Chuck Allen Sr. grew up in eastern North Carolina, where vinegar runs in the blood and barbecue is a love language.
He believed that time around a table—or better yet, a big-ass grill—was time well spent, as long as a cold beer was near.
Ten years after he passed, I didn’t want a solemn memorial. I wanted smoke in the air, music in the trees, and stories that get better with every retelling. I wanted the kind of gathering he would’ve loved—friends who laugh easy, stay late, and eat with their hands.
That’s how the Pig & Pint was born, and it began with a “Pigrimage.”
I had a pig cooker built in North Carolina, not far from where he’s buried, and flew out to pick it up and haul it to Oregon. On the way back, I stopped by his headstone to let him know that:
I live on the West Coast now (he probably turned over),
I married a girl who took our middle name (Ray), and…
I was going to do a pig pickin’ every year in his honor, in the way he taught me.
Then I got back on the highway toward home…
and saw a sign that took my breath away:
I don’t know if my dad sends messages from beyond… but this one had our name all over it.
